 Our Objective

Picture
In creating our community's garden the objective is to establish a community garden near the heart of Clarkston that provides recreational, nutritional, educational and enjoyment of gardening for those households that either do not have a garden or would like an extension of their existing ones.  We wanted the garden area to serve the needs of Clarkston citizens, youth and surrounding Asotin County residents.

Purpose of our garden

Picture
We are a non-profit organization hoping to unite the community in making, growing, and living healthy food choices.

We hope to educate others in the knowledge of growing food and preparing meals that are easy, healthy, and fulfilling.

We are non discriminate and do not permit discrimation on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, age, sex, or ability.

A Look at the Community Garden in Moses Lake

Picture

A visit to the Moses Lake Community Garden was an eye opener and really helped us plan Clarkston's Community Garden. Their project was managed and operated by one person with the Moses Lake Parks and Recreation Dept.

The local gardeners of the plots maintained and cleaned each plot according to the rules of the garden.  Just about everyone followed good gardening practices.  Their site has been in operation for seven years and now contains seventy plots of various sizes occupying a half city block.  Moses Lake population is about 30 thousand residents (17,000 according to Census info), about the same size as our area population.

Our garden operation and design is modeled after their plan.  They expanded roughly 10 plots per year. It is such a show piece for the city there is a spot on their city website
